Poll Clubs 2020: Mad Club

Location: Lausanne, Switzerland
Capacity: 1,800

Opening its doors back in1985 within the now uber-fashionable Flon district of Lausanne, MAD Club is one of the city’s longest-running nightclubs. Once an old hangar that was sometimes used as a theatre/concert hall, these days MAD is a buzzing late-night attraction, running across five floors with three dancefloors and one restaurant.

Over the years, the club has invited an abundance of local talent and international headliners to play the main floor: Loco Dice, Carl Cox, Roger Sanchez and Marco Carola have all made an appearance, plus the likes of Claptone, Timmy Trumpet, Bob Sinclar, Nicky Romero, and Defected’s Simon Dunmore within the past year. “At MAD, we are constantly adapting to musical trends, that's essential, but technology is also important. We invest in sound, lights and pyrotechnics. Full ears and full eyes,” say the team behind MAD Club.

The venue boasts a hi-tech lighting system plus a colossal 30-metre LED screen behind the DJ booth of the main floor; guaranteed to cause a spectacle. MAD has a loyal following of clubbers and each floor takes on a different theme, from Moroccan in La Mezza to the trendy Mad Café that features photos of famous artists who have graced the club.

Poll Clubs 2019: MAD CLUB

Location: Lausanne, Switzerland

Capacity: 1,800

Deep in the heart of the city of Lausanne lies MAD Club. Located in an old metal factory and what was once a theatre hall, nowadays it's one of the most luminous clubs in the uber-trendy Flon district. Running since 1985, MAD has had plenty of headliner DJs grace the decks over the years; most recently the likes of Afrojack, Marco Carola, Claptone and Hardwell have taken the stage. The venue itself has four dancefloors equipped with L’Acoustic Kudo soundsystems, and a restaurant (the BED steakhouse no less, for a proper feed before the rave), and each floor has its own theme from industrial to Moroccan.

A LED wall adorns the back of the stage for maximum visual effect, and the state-of-the-art lighting system displays various hues across the dancefloor at any given time. They also host monthly label parties for R3volution, Apodia, Pura Vida and Affinity — the latter inviting acts like Nicky Romero and Bassjackers. No wonder the club is constantly busy, with a regular following of over 6,000 loyal clubbers. MAD continues to grow in popularity as it continues to climb the DJ Mag Top 100 poll — the only way is up, as they say!

Location: Lausanne, Switzerland

Capacity: 2,000

Head to the trendiest area of Lausanne, the Flon and here you’ll find one of the city’s longest running nightlife attractions: MAD Club. Opening its doors back in 1985 the club has certainly had enough experience in how to throw a party. With four constantly evolving floors there’s likely to be something for everyone. Whether you’re drawn in by big EDM stars (MAD was the first to book David Guetta outside of France FYI), techno titans like Marco Carola, or perhaps the venue’s dazzling big gay party, Bordello. The ultimate goal is for everyone to “have a great evening and forget the worries of everyday life”. Amen to that!

Poll Clubs 2016: Mad Club

The mid-sized MAD club in Switzerland is a new entry into our poll for 2016. The place is spread over no fewer than five levels, three of which offer different dance floor experiences (named MAD, The Red Lounge, JetLag Club and Zoo), whilst the others are taken care of with a private club, Le Prive, and restaurant, BED. Reggaeton nights, gay-friendly parties, legends like Roger Sanchez and banks of hi-tech LED screens all make this a populist choice for Swiss locals, and in 2016 MAD are also offering their first-ever boat parties.
