Poll Clubs 2021: Nitsa

Location: Barcelona, Spain

Capacity: 2,000

Nitsa is one of the oldest and most iconic venues in Barcelona. It was first established as a dance club in 1943 and before that was an amusement park. You could say it still is, given the fun people have across its two rooms and open-air area. One is a former cabaret theatre and the other, remodelled in 2017, has a more modern, urban look and d&b audiotechnik soundsystem.

Aleix Ibars from the club says that during the year of closure, "we have been able to reflect and build stronger connections with other Spanish clubs, sharing thoughts and helping each other when necessary". To that end, in November, Boiler Room Festival will bring the good times back to this legendary club, with Octo Octa, Maayan Nidam and more.

This year’s only re-entry, Nitsa rejoins the Top 100 Clubs poll after appearing just once way back in 2008. Housed in the concert venue Sala Apolo in the heart of the Catalan capital, the club features two rooms and is known for its exciting bookings, ranging from disco to house, electro and techno. Since its opening in 1993, Nitsa has booked electronic music legends like Aphex Twin, Todd Terry, Autechre, Apparat and Erol Alkan.

In the last 12 months alone, Nitsa has played host to a plethora of underground artists like Recondite, DJ Seinfeld, The Black Madonna, Red Axes, Call Super, Jayda G, Miss Kittin, Todd Terje, Charlotte de Witte, KiNK, Michael Mayer and Helena Hauff.
