Yak will release his new EP, ‘Dire Hit’, via Martyn’s 3024 records on 13th April.
Yak reminds us once again why he’s one of the most exciting names in UK techno with this new EP on Phonica Records, ‘Gerudo’.
With four new cuts on offer, the Leeds DJ/producer expands his pallette on this release. Retaining plenty of the bassy, percussive foundations of tracks like his breakthrough ‘Mido’, and the drum & bass flair of his Rhodes Island EP on Martyn’s 3024, ‘Gerudo’ welcomes a lot more melody into the mix. The results are superb.
Yak has gone from strength to strength in the past year. Following last year’s breakthrough dancefloor destroyer ‘Mido’, the recent DJ Mag Fresh Kicks mixer has played some of the UK’s finest venues as well as catching support from huge names such as Hunee, Joy Orbison, Midland, Objekt, Peggy Gou, Laurel Halo, Simian Mobile Disco, Paul Woolford and Martyn.
Throw your summer anthems out the filthy window you cowards, this is the track of the season. Emerging UK label Par Avion have their debut release landing next Friday 10th August and with three equally blazing cuts in the pocket, this is the very definition of a bold introduction.
Last year, Sheffield-based producer Yak dropped a track that, unbeknownst to him, would end up being picked up by some of the most revered DJs on the circuit. ‘Mido’, an agile and propulsive techno-heater released on Orson’s Version imprint, had all the off-kilter verve of releases found on Hessle Audio and Timedance but wielded enough immediacy and percussive heft to slot comfortably into any set it found itself in.
