DJ Rashad ‘Double Cup’ 10th anniversary reissue announced: Watch ‘Last Winter’ video

A 10th-anniversary reissue of DJ Rashad’s ‘Double Cup’ has been announced, along with an accompanying video for ‘Last Winter’. Check it out below.
First released on Hyperdub in 2003, ‘Double Cup’ is one of the footwork genre's most influential releases, and helped bring the sound to an international audience outside of its native Chicago. Sadly, however, the Chicago-born DJ and producer tragically died six months later at just 34 years old.
To honour DJ Rashad’s legacy, 'Double Cup' will be reissued on vinyl via Partisan Records, set for release 8th December 2023.
Speaking on the news, fellow footwork pioneer DJ Spinn said: “Rashad and I knew that this was our opportunity to showcase on a broader level. We wanted to make sure we included all the guys in the recording.
“It was really like a posse album for the most part, [introducing] DJ Earl, DJ Phil, Manny, myself, Taso. We knew that we wanted stuff strictly for Chicago, and we wanted stuff for the people overseas to relate to."
Wes Harden, Rashad’s manager at the time 'Double Cup' was initially released, said: “Double Cup represents the future. It did when it came out, and still does today. It’s the sound of Rashad grabbing the torch of Chicago house from people like Frankie Knuckles and taking it further - to a new generation, a new type of listener, to new parts of the world.”
Along with the reissue, Partisan has also dropped ‘Last Winter’, a digital-only track that was originally only available on out-of-print CD versions of ‘Double Cup’.
The track has been shared with an accompanying video, directed by the creative and longtime friend of Rashad, Ashes57, including archival footage of DJ Rashad, as well as footwork dances by Litebuild, DJ Curtis, and SIrr TMO.
The forthcoming tenth-anniversary reissue will be available on limited edition gold vinyl pressing, featuring new artwork from Ashes57. Set for release on 8th December 2023, you can pre-order your copy here.
Earlier this year, DJ Manny also released a collaborative track with DJ Rashad from his archives as the lead single from his new album, ‘Hypnotized’.
