Fresh Kicks 90: Laura BCR

DJ, label founder and booking agent Laura BCR steps up with a lush vinyl-only mix of deep, rolling techno as part of our Fresh Kicks series...

French born and raised but now Berlin based, Laura BCR has been embedded in dance music for over a decade now. From running her first club night back in 2006 in her hometown in the south of France to running the sadly missed Bass Cadet Record store in Berlin from 2013 to 2016, her work has often been behind the scenes, but nevertheless, totally vital.

In 2015, she launched her booking agency and label, On Board Music, with whom she now represents artists like Zozo, Natascha Kann, Luz, Cinthie and more. Not only that, but she’s been hosting more and more parties across Europe under the On Board banner, and its trajectory is not to be ignored.

“It has changed a lot,” she tells DJ Mag. “It was created in order to help friends who were underrepresented and now we have a worldwide roster and are organising many parties. We have also been running the label for two years now.”

Of her own DJ technique, she took some years away from the circuit in order to focus on other pursuits. But her passion for the craft never went away and, recently, she has rediscovered a love for playing in clubs.

“I've been always collecting music,” she explains. “I got my first record at 17 years old, first turntables at the same age. I've been going out a lot since I was very young. I'm 100% a vinyl addicted who is trying to get over it. I've always been playing music . My first introduction to an audience was with our store Bass Cadet (BCR) in Berlin a couple of years ago.”

Looking toward the future, there’s a lot in store for 2019 and the future is certainly looking bright, both for On Board Music and Laura BCR herself.

“I'm starting a residency at Het Magazijn in The Hague and I'm playing for the first time in Asia,” she says. “We have a new EP and a V/A compilation in the pipeline for 2019 on the label. On Board has got also a few collaborations in the making."

As part of our Fresh Kicks series Laura has served up a vinyl-only mix of deep, rolling techno which she describes as “a really spontaneous mix between new things and records I’ve been playing recently”.
