Massive open air rave set for German coal refinery

Shanti Celeste, Ben UFO, Objekt, more are set to play the UNESCO world heritage site...

There’s huge open air party being held in a German coal refinery in August. The event, which is a collaboration between Telekom Electronic Beats and Düsseldorf-based promoters Baka Gaijin, will take place in Essen at the former industrial site, Zeche Zollverein.

Now a UNESCO world heritage site, Zeche Zollverein’s jaw-dropping architecture will play host  three of the UK’s finest DJs, Shanti Celeste, Ben UFO and Objekt, as well as Berlin’s African Acid Is The Future and Baka Gaijin residents Simon Hildebrandt and Le Denier.

The event takes place on 18th August from 1pm to midnight over two floors. Oh, and there’s also a pool.

For more info, visit the party’s Facebook event page.

This isn’t the only festival that Telekom Electronic Beats are hosting on former industrial German land. Along with Essen-based promoters, The Third Room, they’re also hosting a huge open air rave in a suitably cyberpunk industrial park in June. Melt festival is also returning for its 21st outing this July and the line-up is frankly ludicrous. In London, the amazing Printworks – an old newspaper printing facility – will return for its third season this month.
