Spotify trial new auto-mixing DJ feature

Spotify is trialing a new DJ automix feature, that uses AI to blend tracks in a playlist.

The tool was spotted on the D’n’B playlist ‘Drum & Bass Fix’, with auto-beatmatched tracks when shuffle is engaged. The feature isn’t available across all playlists as of yet, and Spotify haven’t confirmed or denied the new feature is on the way across the service.

In 2015, Spotify introduced Party Mode, which was a similar but less sophisticated feature that’s now been discontinued.

It remains to be seen how AI will play a part in Spotify’s future, but with their recommendation algorithms seemingly already sophisticated, it makes sense the playback technology will catch up.
