100% Silk will release a collaborative album from Maria Minerva and the late, great Cherushii next week, 15th February.
The seven-track collection is bittersweet and beautiful, recorded by the two producers over three years of their friendship before Cherushii – real name Chelsea Faith – tragically passed away in the Oakland, Ghost Ship fire of December 2016.
Faith and the Estonian-born Minerva first became friends in 2013, when Minerva first moved to the US with an 8-show tour locked in but no drivers licence to get her around. Her close friend, pen-pal and 100% Silk label-mate volunteered to join her, both as a driver and to share the stage.
The pair remained close from then on, and by the end of 2016 they had written and recorded the backbone of six dazzling, hook-laden and colourful house cuts together, speaking clearly to both artists’ talents, technical abilities and companionship.
With the help of David Last, Adam Gunther, and Brian Foote, Minerva finished and polished the recordings that her and Cherushii had made, which are now ready to be released by the revered label whose party was tragically hit by the Ghost Ship fire.
‘Boyfriend Shirt’ sits as one of the release’s centrepieces, with gossamer synths and a captivating vocal bouncing on top of an infectious house groove. Check it out below.
