Dublin label Apartment Records celebrates its 10th anniversary this month with the release of a new compilation, ‘TENEMENTS’.
The comp features 12 cuts from a cast of international and local acts, from Dublin, Galway, New York, London, Detroit, Glasgow, Amsterdam and Guangzhou. Artists including Belacqua, Jo Johnson, Blusher, Caskré, Ten Years Lost and Chase Smith contribute. Returning artists and new contributors to the label all feature, spanning techno, g-funk electro, ambient and more.
Los Angeles-based producer and DJ Yaw Appiah will release a new EP, ‘Nangu’, tomorrow.
The emerging artist follows his recent ‘Before Transition’ release, which featured guest appearances from vocalists Bunny Smalls and Lee McKrazy, with three cuts of deep, vibey Afro house. From the tender pianos of opener ‘Yimi’ to the organic percussion and guitars of ‘Ukudala’, the EP conjures a lush atmosphere while holding a steady pulse. You can hear the mood-building title track below.
Goodnight, the sibling duo of Daniel and Darrell de Lara, will release a new EP, ‘Tangent’, via London label GASS this month.
The duo, whose cinematic productions alchemise the sounds of new wave, dream pop and shoegaze, deliver four new cuts (and one additional VIP mix) for Mamiko Motto and Eric Hu’s label, drifting from hazy deep house to crumbly downtempo with a consistent soft-focus.
After a quarter of a century in drum & bass, Samurai Music boss Presha will finally release his debut EP on 29th October. Check out the EP’s closer, ‘The Spell’, below.
Om Unit will release a new EP, ‘Flux’, this Friday 22nd October. Check out the track, ‘Angles’, below.
The self-released six-tracker finds the Bristol DJ and producer mixing shades of dubstep, electro, ambient and dub techno onto a subtly sped-up sonic palette. Following his ‘Acid Dub Studies’ LP from February, this new 12” ventures back into the universe of his ‘Submerged’ and ‘Violet’ EPs, both of which occupied similarly cosmic territory, fusing weighty genres together in an atmospheric, but no less punchy, manner.
Paris-based producer Mehen (aka Hadone) will release a new EP, ‘Imperfections In The Sun’, via LA label Amniote Editions. You can hear the title track below.
Across four tracks, Mehen sculpts fast, melodic and melancholic techno in the same universe as his acclaimed 2019 EP for the label, ‘I’ve Heard A Lot About Harmony’. Nimble kicks and scorched electronics prime the first three tracks for the dancefloor, while closer ‘Her Revolver's Eye Shot Me Down’ is a spaced out cut of skipping drums, breaks and Aphex Twin Druqksisms that knocks on the door of d&b.
Portland label Sublimate Records will release a new V/A compilation later this month, titled ‘Reclamation’.
Brighton label Mr Bongo has enlisted Harvey Sutherland and Masters At Work to remix tracks from Melbourne jazz and funk outfit Surprise Chef.
Surprise Chef released two albums last year, ‘All News Is Good News’ and ‘Daylight Savings’. Both albums were recorded to tape, and were lauded for their cinematic scope and virtuosic instrumental performances.
Standard Deviation, the in-house label of Kyiv club ∄, continues its vinyl series this month with a new split EP from Berlin-based Mala Junta resident D.Dan and Ukraine’s Omon Breaker.
Shawn Cartier returns to London label Childsplay this month with the 'ALIEN FLOPPY DISK EMBARGO' EP.
Following last year’s dazzlingly off-kilter release, ‘Crazy Boy’, Cartier dishes up five more cuts of weird rave material, sprinting from alien electro and hyperactive, acid-tinged techno and back again, all in perfect pace with the label’s high-energy and neon-hued aesthetic. You can hear the opening track, ‘STONK ME’, below.
