Premiere: Mars89 ‘TX-55’

Amy Becker launches her Acrylic Records label with two blazing club mutations from Tokyo’s Mars89. Hear the syncopated EBM behemoth, ‘TX-55’, now

London’s Amy Becker will launch Acrylic Records this month with a two-track release from Tokyo’s Mars89.

Established as a party three years ago, Acrylic has since evolved to incorporate a regular slot on NTS and an A/V show. Now, the London figurehead kicks off Acrylic’s next chapter with the launch of a label, the output of which “will epitomise Amy’s eclectic taste as a revered DJ and curator, bridging the gap between left field electronic music, rap music and beyond.”

First up is Tokyo producer Mars89, who brings his boundless, experimental take on club sounds to the fore with two formidable cuts. Appropriately, B-side ‘Successor Project’ samples Tek 9’s 1994 jungle reinterpretation of Code071’s ‘A London Sumtin’’, warping its distinctive vocal hook around rugged techno kicks, thunderous breaks and harrowing bass. You can hear that now on Acrylic Records Soundcloud

Opener ‘TX-55’ fuses EBM distortion with a syncopated industrial rhythm – Acid drenched dancehall chucked into a cavern. Check it out below.
