Premiere: Nia Archives ‘Headz Gone West’

Nia Archives fuses old skool jungle, UKG, R&B and hardcore on her striking debut EP, ‘Headz Gone West’. Check out the title track now

Leeds-born, London-based artist Nia Archives will release her debut EP, ‘Headz Gone West’, on 29th April.

Following a string of striking debut singles, which saw the producer, songwriter, DJ and visual artist tipped as one of DJ Mag’s emerging artists to look out for in December last year, Nia Archives’ debut EP cements the 20-year-old as a rising star in the making. Across five tracks, she fuses old skool elements of jungle, UKG, dubstep and hardcore with flourishes R&B, soul and jazz, balancing UK rave nostalgia with a contemporary flair.

She started her journey into production in 2017, and was boosted by her EQ50-led mentorship with the iconic V Recordings. Inspired by the aesthetic of ‘80s and ‘90s rave and soundsystem cultures, as well as her own Jamaican heritage and artists like Erykah Baduh, Lauryn Hill and Nina Simone, she describes her musical style as a “bit of a melting pot”.

You can hear the title track of the EP below, a nimble liquid jungle cut with soulful vocals and a bright, sunkissed melodic hook.
