Yak reminds us once again why he’s one of the most exciting names in UK techno with this new EP on Phonica Records, ‘Gerudo’.
With four new cuts on offer, the Leeds DJ/producer expands his pallette on this release. Retaining plenty of the bassy, percussive foundations of tracks like his breakthrough ‘Mido’, and the drum & bass flair of his Rhodes Island EP on Martyn’s 3024, ‘Gerudo’ welcomes a lot more melody into the mix. The results are superb.
Across the EP, comparisons with the playful minimalism and subtly complex rhythms of Hessle Audio’s Joe feel natural. Marimba-like trills and duelling melodies make for a vibrant, full listen. Nowhere is this more evident than on the radiant 'Guevenne Groove', which you can hear below.
