Unknown7 & Senssata6, Armando (PT)
It’s easy to hear why Desolat boss Loco Dice has been rinsing these two all summer long — an insanely vibey double act from Milan’s Unknown7 and Sanssata6 (also of Momento Lab), and Portugal’s Armando (PT). The former duo link with Dani Siciliano for ‘Sweet Cherry’, a tense build and drop track that pairs a sumptuous percussive summer beat and bassline with longing vocal lines. Pure fun. Unknown7 and Armando (PT) collaborate on something arguably harder; full of energy across the beat, bass and hats, 'Inside' drops like a muthaf***er, and the gushing synth and vocal breakdown is absolute bliss.
'Hell Is Other People feat. Si Begg'
Unknown To The Unknown
If you like your weird and wobbly house — something a long way off-centre — then this three-tracker from Neil Landstrumm is for you. It’s on more of an analogue electro tip than tech-house, but any DJ worth their salt will be dropping this to get the dancefloor moving. It speaks to you, you know? And that’s not Si Begg’s robotic vocal contribution either.
Heavy House Society
Argentine tech specialist Barem takes control of the inaugural release on Sidney Charles’ new label, Heavy House Society. Three serious club rollers that’ll send you tripping into tomorrow, with Djebali revising the low-end gritty ‘Hollow’ into a punchy, swinging rhythm-roller.
Mason Collective & Stacey Pullen
'It's Time EP'
Manchester’s principal tech-house dons, Mason Collective, team up with Detroit’s Blackflag Records head, Stacey Pullen. Two no-frills club cuts, which meld elements of each side's strengths — high energy BPMs and tripped-out stylings on the Collective’s solo effort, ‘Technoey Tech’, with astute vocal and synth arrangements on collab ‘It’s Time’. Crank ’em up!
A very close second this month, as this nearly trumped Desolat to the top spot — and you won’t disagree when you wrap your ears around this mighty remix pairing. Cassy and Bambounou grab ahold of Italojohnson’s 2012 released 'ITJ05', with each revamping the unnamed tracks into something special. Cassy goes bold, with bass and impatiently swinging drums, while Bambounou supplies a monstrous, energetic trip that’s both pacy and rhythmic in deadly proportion.
Dixon Avenue Basement Jams & Big Miz
'Jail The Lot EP'
Dixon Avenue Basement Jams
DABJ team up with fellow Scotsman Big Miz to throw down four lively cuts that’ll bus’ up the dancefloor in no time. All tracks contain some form of vocal, above varied tempos of bold, frantic drum arrangement and wobbly synths; from the shouty boom-bap rap loop on ‘CYT’ and Do The Damn Thing’, to the introspective sleaze on ‘Dalm Right’ and the preaching pastor on ‘Eternal Damnation'.
Having remixed the Italoboyz earlier in the year for Crosstown, Yulia Niko gets her full debut, with a four-track EP that includes a remix from rising player Cioz. The EP is a versatile trip through the deeper side of tech-house; the opener ‘Caminando’ features obscure vocal wailings from Sil Romero, before we're treated to the acidic sunset bounce of ‘Es Vedra’ and the uplifting tech of ‘Paradise’. Cioz delights with his textured, synth-layered minimalism on the ‘Caminando’ remix.
Shades of Gray
'Under The Skin 12" Sampler'
DJ Schwa’s collaborative project with fellow Beef boss Nick West will be delivering their third full-length studio album this autumn. To get all your juices flowing, they serve up a meaty six-track sampler. Two mesmerising originals get tip-top remixes from Trus’me — a prime cut of acidic chug — and Jamie Stevens, with a saucy cut of deep, melodic flavour. Schwa completes the action with an expansive, left of field roller.
