Amsterdam club Sugar Factory files for bankruptcy, closes immediately

Amsterdam club Sugar Factory has closed its doors with immediate effect after filing for bankruptcy.

The venue announced the action via its website and social media, saying: “The organization has done everything to proceed with their club shows and concerts, but the resources proved insufficient.”

Their statement, which was issued via Facebook, continued: “Closing the doors of the venue is the only possibility at this point, which is of course a very painful statement for everyone involved.”

All scheduled concerts and club nights set to take place at the venue have been cancelled with the move bringing to an end almost 14 years of operations for the 750-capacity venue. The closure affects around 50 employees and freelance staff.

Late last year, a new 4,000-capacity techno-centred venue called Music Dome opened underneath a football stadium in Amsterdam.

A number of DJs playing at last year’s Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) recently shared their Amsterdam tips for how to survive and enjoy the event.
