Common and Pete Rock announce collaborative album, share first single, ‘Wise Up’: Listen

Common and Pete Rock have released the first single from their upcoming joint album, 'The Auditorium Vol. 1'. Watch the video for 'Wise Up' below.

The US hip-hop stars have been teasing the collaborative LP since last year, when Common told MSNBC’s The Beat With Ari Melber about the in-the-works project. "...The energy of that music, whether it’s Brand Nubian, A Tribe Called Quest, or De La Soul, because they just got their music on streaming, it’s been inspiring to hear", Common said, according to HipHopDX.

'Wise Up' is the first taste of 'The Auditorium Vol. 1', due out 12th July on Loma Vista. According to PR, the album will be "political, nostalgic and future facing".

"'Wise Up' represents the coming together of a New York producer and a Chicago MC doing the hip-hop we love", Common said in the single's Bandcamp description. "It feels like the spirit of where we come from, the boom bap, the basement, but it also feels forward and new. We wanted this to be the first joint because this record captures a new sound and is a new light but speaks directly to our hip hop family".

Common's last solo albums were 2020 and 2021s 'A Beautiful Revolution (Pt. 1)' and '(Pt. 2)'. In 2023, Pete Rock produced the 'Baby Boy Beat Tape' with Bleq Saevan.
