Coronavirus UK: Boris Johnson announces clubs must close immediately due to coronavirus

The closure of all UK nightclubs will be reviewed in 14 days

Boris Johnson announced during this afternoon's address to the nation that all nightclubs must close with immediate effect, due to the spread of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19.

The list of venues that must close includes clubs, as well as pubs, bars, food and drink venues, cinemas, theatres, concert, bingo halls, spas, indoor leisure centres, gyms, casinos, betting shops, museums and galleries.

The UK's communities secretary, Robert Jenrick, added that the restriction will be put in place for 14 days before being reviewed.

The news came as the director general of the World Health Organisation, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said that young people are not doing enough to help stop the the spread of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19.

Speaking in a press conference earlier today, he said, “You are not invincible, this virus could put you in hospital for weeks, or even kill you.” He added that young people's “choices could mean life or death for someone else.”
