Gorillaz promise new music as Song Machine “remains ON!” amid coronavirus pandemic

Gorillaz began teasing the project at the start of the year

Gorillaz have promised that their Song Machine project will continue through "the storm".

The Damon Albarn-fronted digital band first began teasing the Song Machine project earlier this year. They shared the first instalment, 'Momentary Bliss', featuring Northampton-born rapper slowthai and Slaves, in February, and another track with Malian musician, Fatoumata Diawara, shortly after.

Now, Gorillaz have shared a message from the digital frontman Murdoc Niccals, addressing their fans amid the global coronavirus pandemic. “These are serious times,” Murdoc writes. “And I don’t just mean running out of bog roll (personally I use a bidet), or having to do online yoga with your mum. In the coming days and weeks, we will face many challenges. But even though large tracts of mankind grind to a halt in the face of this formidable foe, we shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end."

He signs the note off stating that "until then, we've got this, and more importantly, the machine stays ON!". The letter is also signed by the other Gorillaz members: 2D, Russel Hobbs, and Noodle.
