The influence of electronic music’s female pioneers explored in new film
The Paris-based film is out next month
A new film from new wave band Nouvelle Vague member Marc Collin is set to pay tribute to pioneering female electronic musicians of the '70s and '80s.
The film, titled 'The Shock of the Future', is Collin's directorial debut. It's set in Paris in 1978 and follows the story of Ana (played by Alma Jodorowsky), who begins to have doubts about her work after dealing with a predominantly male music industry. Getting to grips with electronic machines, she steadily develops a new sound that has a huge influence on others.
Amongst those that the film pays tribute to are Delia Derbyshire, Daphne Oram, Suzanne Ciani and Laurie Spiegel. The film, meanwhile, takes in music from Suicide, Throbbing Gristle, Cerrone and some of Marc Collin's own work.
