John Digweed stalker receives restraining order and suspended jail sentence

Sharon Rennie also ordered to pay £100 compensation to the DJ...

A 49-year-old Scottish woman has been sentenced to 120 days in prison, suspended for two years, by Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on account of her stalking John Digweed.

Sharon Rennie, of Dundee, sent Digweed a “large number of emails between June and October”. Describing herself as a “super fan” of the DJ, the content of the unsolicited emails varied in nature, from "expressions of admiration and love to occasionally sexually explicit emails which were offensive and abusive". Digweed never responded to any of these emails reported Kent Online.

Ms Rennie, who was “obsessed” with Digweed, attempted to procure his phone number by calling his agent and pretending to be an old friend, a request which was refused. While Digweed performed at The Social Festival on Saturday 30th September, Ms Rennie approached the DJ icon, kissed him and said “It’s great to see you. Are you coming home with me?”. Digweed replied that he was not and Rennie was swiftly escorted out by security.

Three days later she appeared at his home in Kent, asking a neighbour if it was the correct address and claiming she was due to interview him, at which stage the police were called.

Rennie was handed a restraining order, banning her from contacting Digweed or his wife, or visiting Digweed’s hometown of Sevenoaks, for five years.
