Nene H launches new label, UMAY, with BASHKKA EP

Nene H is launching a new non-profit label called UMAY with an EP from BASHKKA.

UMAY aims to provide a platform for "artists from underrepresented backgrounds" and will share revenue with its artists in "an open critique against industry standards, crude label politics and the dominant music business model that Nene H has had to painfully experience herself in the recent years", according to the press release.

Out 15th February, the 'Maktub' ("it’s written") EP is the solo debut from BASHKKA, the trans activist, producer, Blitz Club resident and trained singer and songwriter recently signed to Marcel Dettmann’s new booking agency.

The five-track release spans a wide spectrum of dance music from garage and acid house to trance and techno and melds "uptempo dancefloor music with Kurdish vocal samples, alongside a Chicago-influenced bounce house piece featuring BASHKKA’s own vocals". There's also a remix from Nene H.

Artwork for the EP has been created by Copenhagen drag artist Noah Umur Kanber and "reflects on BASHKKA’s story, involving narrative elements of Mesopotamian mythology". Check out the first track 'DeFol' via Bandcamp below.

Nene H dropped the three-track 'Trifecta' EP via Berlin's Live From Earth Klub last December. The release of the EP arrived a year and a half after Nene H's debut 'Ali'.
