A new book examines Saint Etienne's history and the way the UK band played with the concept of memory.
How We Used Saint Etienne to Live, out 13th December, is journalist Ramzy Alwakeel's new book for Repeater Books. It includes new interviews with the band members Bob Stanley, Pete Wiggs and Sarah Cracknell about how they "make and manipulate history and nostalgia", covering topics like "tape splicing, town planning, 'Now' compilations" and their biggest chart hit, 1995's 'He’s On The Phone'.
Alwakeel previously authored the 2016 book Smile If You Dare: Politics and Pointy Hats with the Pet Shop Boys, also for Repeater Books.
Revisit Ben Osborne's feature on Saint Etienne's breakout single and indie-dance crossover hit, their 1990 cover of Neil Young's 'Only Love Can Break Your Heart'.
