Book on rave culture and UK cities, Out Of Space, to receive new edition in April
The best-selling examination of UK club culture and urban landscapes by journalist Jim Ottewill gets an update and expansion on Velocity Press
A best-selling book on UK club culture and urban landscapes is getting a new, expanded edition, coming to bookstores this spring.
The 2024 version of journalist Jim Ottewill's Out Of Space: How UK Cities Shaped Rave Culture, originally published in 2022, will be updated to include new information, revisions and added focus on Birmingham, on top of the previously covered cities of London, Manchester and Sheffield. Velocity Press will publish the second edition of Out Of Space on 26th April.
"Late last year we noticed stock was running low and knowing author Jim Ottewill wanted to update it, we got him to revise and expand it", Velocity Press shared on Instagram. "Not only that, Jim has added a whole new chapter on Birmingham."
The first edition includes interviews with the likes of Norman Jay MBE, Josey Rebelle, Toddla T, OK Williams and more. "A key question I've asked artists, DJs, promoters and club owners is whether a place can still influence the sound that comes from it", Ottewill said in 2022. "Or has the internet and online world blown up any of these distinctions?"

There've been a number of announcements for UK music books and zines in recent months. Debut books by Aniefiok Ekpoudom, on the social history of British rap and grime, and DJ Paulette, titled Welcome To The Club: The Life and Lessons of a Black Woman DJ, are due out later this month.
