Nia Archives has become the first electronic artist to be named BBC Music Introducing Artist of the Year.

On Thursday, 3rd November, the Bradford-born, Leeds-raised DJ and producer received the prestigious nod, making her the first electronic artist to do so since it launched back in 2014.

BBC Introducing shared the news via their Instagram:

Archives took to Twitter to share about receiving the award:

The news comes less than a week after the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) revealed that dance music is now the UK's second most popular genre. Data shared by the organisation found that the music genre has accounted for around 25% of weekly top 10 singles this year

Back in September, Nia Archives dropped 'Baianá', the first new material to emerge from the UK artist since her 'Forbidden Feelingz' EP back in March.
