A new photography exhibition exploring modern-day rave and youth culture will take place at Manchester’s Smolenksy Gallery next month.

Knees Up, hosted by Newcastle-based photography collective Tough Luck, will run from 6 PM 'til late on Saturday 10th February.

Described as a “spirited celebration of music, freedom, diversity, and boundless creativity”, the exhibition will explore the essence of underground parties through original photography, as well as DJ sets from the likes of Laks, Cinshot, George Verinder, Marzuq Rehman, and Guttershotz. Attendees will also have the opportunity to purchase prints from the featured artists.

“I want to create a space for people to not only to view an array of artwork from some extremely talented photographers but a gathering in which people can have a few drinks, chat, meet new likeminded people before heading off to clubs etc to enjoy the rest of their night,” explains founder Jordan Taylor.

Tough Luck will also be making a donation to The Photography Foundation, which helps young adults from disadvantaged backgrounds to gain long term employment through the art of photography.

The Instagram-account-turned-zine started out publishing candid analogue photos of illegal raves and house parties, before venturing into the world of parties. Last summer, Tough Luck hosted their first event in London, Nowt Daft, spotlighting a variety of emerging youth culture photographers and DJs.
