Renè, renowned Circoloco Ibiza resident dies, aged 47

Renè, the renowned Ibiza DJ and resident of Circoloco, has died, aged 47.

The Italian DJ, real name Renato Gimani, passed away at Rome's Tor Vergata hospital due to heart complications caused by a congenital malformation, Italian publication Corriere della Sera reports. He had been living with the condition since childhood.

Born in Rome in the late '70s, Gimani started DJing as a teenager after relocating to the town of Riccione on the Adriatic coast. He started to play regularly at clubs such as Cocoricò, Peter Pan and Titilla and Cocoricò, before eventually starting a residency at Bologna venue Contatto.

He moved to Ibiza in 2000, and was asked to play at one of the early Circoloco parties at a then recently-opened DC-10. Following early appearances there, he went on to become a resident as Circoloco emerged as one of the island's best parties.

In a tribute post shared to social media, Circoloco called Renè "a friend, a brave man and a great DJ," while the team at DC10 said they were "deeply shocked and saddened to learn" of his passing.
