Stormzy's #Merky Books announces literature festival

Stormzy's publishing imprint #Merky Books is putting on a two-day literature festival this spring.

Set to take place on 22nd and 23rd April, the inaugural edition of the free event will be located at London's Roundhouse as part of the In The Round Festival. Sponsored by Netflix, the event will attempt to inspire young creatives by giving them access to talks from established author as well as newer figures.

On the event's first day, there will be a panel discussion featuring Wretch 32 and playwright John Agard, followed by an opening party hosted by Sounds by No Signal. The following day, former Children’s Laureate Malorie Blackman will be interviewed by Vick Hope.

Other events taking place across the two days include a panel discussion exploring the theme of girlhood with author Candice Brathwaite and playwright and screenwriter Theresa Ikoko, and a conversation on mental health and resilience hosted by BBC Radio 1Xtra presenter Richie Brave.

There will also be workshops, masterclasses and screenings, in addition to specialist advisors being available to discuss career moves and more.

Speaking about the festival, Stormzy said: "I'm so proud that we're able to offer a free festival to inspire young creatives. This is going to be our biggest event yet for #Merky Books."

While the festival is free to attend, those who wish to go will need to acquire passes via Roundhouse's website.

In November, Stormzy released his first album in three years, 'This Is What I Mean'.
