Two men confirmed to have died at Glastonbury festival

Two men in their 40s sadly died at Glastonbury Festival this weekend, local police have confirmed.

48-year-old DJ and radio host Jason Winder passed away in his tent following a “medical incident” at 4AM on Sunday (25th June), according to Avon and Somerset Police. He received treatment from emergency services but was pronounced dead at the scene. Winder’s death is not being treated as suspicious, and an investigation is underway ahead of an inquest.

Winder had previously worked abroad presenting radio shows in Phuket, Thailand, for expats under his stage name, Jason Wilder. He was best known for his afternoon Drive Time shows on Phuket Live 89.5FM, the island’s English-speaking radio station, where he’d regularly play for three hours non-stop.

Friends, family, and fans have paid tribute following the news. Close friend Tim Newton, who played alongside Winder on Phuket radio, described him as “a natural-born engager and entertainer – solo behind the mic, or in the company of close friends and family, or in front of thousands.” The friend then added: “He lived large and packed a lot of life into his 48 short years.” The Phuket News also ran a segment in tribute to him.

In a separate, unrelated incident, a Glastonbury crew member was reportedly found unresponsive in his tent at around 14:20 Tuesday afternoon (27th June) by colleagues. According to the BBC, police officers were called to The Park area of the festival site, where the man, in his 40s, was confirmed dead at the scene. His death is also not being treated as suspicious, Avon and Somerset police said, adding “his next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.’”

The festival, which takes place annually at Worthy Farm, ended on Sunday night.
