It aims to be the "epicentre of hip-hop culture in the UK"

A UK hip-hop museum is set to be established in London by Kurtis Blow and Troy Harewood.

Built on the ethos of "preserving, celebrating, and elevating the rich culture and history of hip-hop," the UK Hip Hop Museum is a groundbreaking initiative led by pioneering rap artist Kurtis Blow and UK B-boy Troy Harewood.

With its aim to become the "epicentre of hip-hop culture in the UK, celebrating its rich history and inspiring generations," the museum will be an immersive space in the capital that traces the genre's journey from its Brfonx origins to its influence in the UK.

In a statement, Troy Harewood said: "Our mission at The UK Hip Hop Museum revolves around three core principles: PRESERVATION, INSPIRATION, and EDUCATION. These principles underpin our efforts to provide an immersive platform that entertains, educates, and empowers communities across the United Kingdom."

The vision for the museum centres on "five pillars" of hip-hop culture: DJing, emceeing, graffiti, breakdancing and knowledge.

Four decades on from becoming the first rapper to be signed to a major label - Mercury - in 1979, Kurtis Blow said: "The multifaceted mission of The UK Hip Hop Museum embraces a wide spectrum of endeavours, from the preservation of Hip Hop's vibrant legacy in the UK and its educational enrichment to fostering community engagement, empowerment, and driving economic growth."

In order to make the museum a reality, organisers have made a call-out to potential supporters and partners. "To bring this vision to life, we are actively seeking financial contributions, sponsorships, and collaborative partnerships," they said.

"Your support will play a pivotal role in creating a vibrant cultural hub that transcends boundaries and positively impacts communities, and safeguards the rich heritage of UK Hip Hop's history."
