A new photozine explores hip-hop culture from the early 1980s.

'Hip Hop Years The B Sides 1982-2020' by British-born photographer Janette Beckman features 36 pages of original, black and white photography of hip-hop icons including Roxanne Shanté,  Rakim, Missy Elliott, Scott La Rock, Cash Money, Flavor Flav, EPMD, Kurtis Blow, Salt-N-Pepa, Joey Bada$$, Stetsasonic and more.

The 36-page photozine is the follow-up to Beckman's ‘Hip Hop Years New York 1982–1992’. Published last year, it hones in on the underground scene and features stars like Run DMC, Salt 'N Pepa, Chuck D, Slick Rick, LL Cool J and more.

London-born Beckman, who moved to NYC in the '80s, is renowned for her music-entrenched work. As well as photozines and exhibition work, she has published four books to date: ‘Made in the UK, Music of Attitude 1977-1982’, ‘The Breaks Stylin’ and Profilin’ 1982-1990,’ ‘El Hoyo Maravilla’ and ‘The Mash Up,' a collection of her hip-hop photographs reinterpreted by legendary graffiti artists.
