Underworld have shared a sprawling, 10-minute ambient techno track, ‘Appleshine’, through their Drift multimedia platform.

Shared last night (24th January) as a free download through their recently launched digital project, the track – marked as “Ep.2 Pt.1” of the Drift series – is a hypnotic and introspective cut from the legendary duo. It also comes paired with a kaleidoscopic film accompaniment by Simon Taylor.

“Drift started as a journey with no fixed destination; an experiment and a very public investigation of new working processes by Underworld,” the new episode’s coinciding text explains. “On that journey, Karl and Rick stopped at a pig shed in Essex; Rockingham Speedway; a hotel room in Reykjavik; AIR studios and a series of tiny club shows in Amsterdam, Manchester and London. Each of those stop off points helped influence the creation of DRIFT Episode 1 & 2.”

Additional flute and violin on the track comes from experimental band Black Country, New Road’s Georgia and Lewis. Check it out below.

An earlier, shorter version of the track appeared last year when Underworld headlined the BBC Biggest Weekend in Belfast.

Earlier this week, Underworld were added to the bill for Sónar 2019.

Last year, Underworld released a collaborative track with punk legend Iggy Pop.
