CARL COX TO ROCK THE HOUSE (OF COMMONS)

LAST NIGHT A DJ SAVED MY LIFE (LNADJ), the fundraising dance music charity, is organising a second national DJ competition this year. The first prize is to play a gig alongside Carl Cox at the House Of Commons this summer, and to kick-start your DJ career.

LNADJ has got form with this type of event. In 2013, Fatboy Slim played the award-winners show at the iconic Parliament building — the first ever DJ to do so. While assorted MPs did embarrassing ‘dad dancing’ and the like, Norm temporarily slipped on a Guy Fawkes mask to subvert the process just a little bit. Competition winner Bryce Fury then played the headline set, and it helped him to start making his way in the industry.

This isn’t just another DJ competition — there’s a fund-raising element to it too, aimed at helping children in conflict zones. The competition is divided into two age categories — 14-16 and 17-24. Entrance mixes need to be uploaded to LNADJ’s Mixcloud microsite, and winning DJs will then be invited to regional heats — culminating in the big House Of Commons reveal for the ultimate winner on 11th May.

There’s also a producer competition to re-make the classic ‘Last Night A DJ Save My Life’ house track from a set of replayed stems. The DJ competition kicks off on 8th January and runs until 20th March. The regional heats will be in April, with the national final later in the month.
