Richie Hawtin has released a video explaining the inner workings of his audio-visual live show, CLOSE.
The show, which debuted at Coachella festival in April last year, is based around an improvised performance using a plethora of music tech, including Ableton, Traktor, some midi keyboards, a modular synthesiser and his self-designed Model 1 mixer.
Hawtin reveals he only has one or two tracks loaded up when each performance begins, with no samples or sounds loaded into any of his other equipment so everything is done on the fly during the show.
"It's about synchronicity, it's about spontaneity, and it's really about me experimenting in front of you to see where I can take this," he says.
As he plays, cameras track his movements and feed the images into a program which distort them into psychedelic patterns, creating a mind-blowing, immersive experience.
Hawtin recently announced his CLOSE show will come to the UK for two dates this year, hitting the O2 Academy in Glasgow on Thursday 11th October, and London's Roundhouse on Friday 12th October.
