The nominations have been announced for DJ Mag's annual Best of North America poll.
The poll is our chance to put a spotlight on the immense breadth of talent to be found throughout North America. Across 16 categories, representatives from the worlds of house, techno, bass and disco sit alongside electro, jazz and experimentalism in the hope of platforming the wide-ranging and ever-changing dance music environment of North America. Kaytranada has dropped a new track, ‘Dysfunctional’, his first new music since the 'Nothin Like U/Chances' EP in 2018, which featured Ty Dolla $ign and Sha Lia.
This latest lyrical stepper also welcomes two collaborators, with vocals from Nigerian-American R&B sisters VanJess, whose own debut album, 'Silk Canvas' arrived last year with input from UK MC Lil Simz.
Robert Hood has been locked to play one of DJ Mag’s parties as part of our Best Of North America Awards tour.
On 24th May, the Detroit techno legend – who featured on the cover of DJ Mag North America in January – will play Elsewhere’s Rooftop in Brooklyn. He will be joined by local breakthrough DJ, Justin Cudmore for the occasion. Elsewhere was a new entry this year in DJ Mag's Top 100 club's poll.
Juan Atkins and Ciel have been confirmed for the first party to be announced as part of DJ Mag's Best of North American Awards tour.
Techno behemoth Atkins, who's taking his legendary Cybotron project to London later this year, will play the awards show at Coda, Toronto on Saturday 4th May, supported by the reliably excellent Ciel, as well as Jackie Spade and Jamie Kidd.
Kerri Chandler is set to play a 3-hour set a New York’s House of Yes next weekend, Friday 18th May.
The Chicago house legend will join support acts including Eric Holt, Dopeshoes, Kelso and more.
The show is part of DJ Mag North America’s Best Of North America awards tour and the theme is Illusions of Grandeur. Costumes that support the theme are encouraged so think: rabbits in hats, magicians in tuxedos, disappearing doves and more!
Adventure Club, Whipped Cream, Someone’s Daughter and Slimez will all be playing at DJ Mag’s Best of North America party tonight (3rd May)
The party, hosted by Insomniac, is part of the DJ Mag Best of North America 2018 Tour, which continues tomorrow with Dennis Ferrer & Kenny Glasgow, on 12th May in Ethics club Austin with Lauren Lane, and on 18th May in New York’s House of Yes with Kerri Chandler.
