STECHER has released his self-titled, debut EP via NIA Records. Listen to it below.

Released on 12th May under his beat production moniker, the Berlin-based drummer and producer presents six tracks of drill, post-club, and avant-pop experimentation.

Described as compiling a “boundary-pushing fusion of influences”, the project also features vocals from Avex, along with intimate spoken word performances from Austro-Egyptian composer and one half of Sea Urchin, Leila Hassan, and Algerian vocalist and percussionist, Liaam Iman.

Closing out the EP are a couple of remixes by Nyege Nyege / Hakuna Kalala affiliates Chrisman and Debmaster.

STECHER’s EP is only the second ever release on Berlin-based experimental imprint, NIA Records, which was formed in early 2021 with the intention to “amplify sound based practices existing to dismantle and decolonise oppressive racist, patriarchal and capitalist structures.”

30% of the project’s profits will be donated to Fendika Cultural Center, one of the only cultural institutions in Ethiopia’s capital of Addis Ababa supporting independent creatives.
