We are now into the final fortnight of the Havana Cultura Remix competition – your chance to remix Gilles Peterson and win a trip to Cuba in association with Havana Club.

The entries have been flooding in. Many of you have downloaded the parts to create a new composition on your own software, but if you don’t have the kit there is an excellent tool that lets you can create and submit a mix directly in the app!

If your mix is chosen by the 6Music and Brownswood DJ & producer, you will be whisked off to Havana, Cuba where you will join Gilles and work with some of Cuba’s finest musicians on a unique composition – an incredible opportunity for any muso, or world-music aficionado.

As Gilles himself put it when we interviewed him last month: “[Cuban music] has influenced so much of what we listen to, particularly disco and the stuff that was coming out of New York in the ’70s and ’60s. Cuba is well known for every Latin rhythm you can think of— it’s had a huge influence to us.”

So now is your chance to connect with this rich musical history and work with some of the nation’s finest musicians and vocalists, all with the support of a leading world music expert in Gilles Peterson.
