With Miller Genuine Draft

Over the next few weeks we’ll be profiling the Miller SoundClash finalists; getting to know the DJs who will be flying to Las Vegas to compete for a chance to play alongside Dannic at Drais! Today we are speaking with the entry from South Korea, Baryonyx.

Tell us in one sentence who you are and where are you from?

"I’m DJ BARYONYX (Jaemin Hwang), director of DNBS (Drum and Bass Seoul) and member of BNS Krew, I’m from Jinhae, S.Korea."

Where did your love of music first come from?

"Daily life and video art."

How long have you been DJing?

"I have been DJing for 6 Years and I also produce my own music."

What’s been the highlight of your career so far?

"Before I won the South Korea Miller SoundClash it was playing at Ultra Music Festival Korea in 2015."

How does it feel to win your local Miller SoundClash competition? Tell us about your experience in the competition so far.

"Actually, I can’t feel this is really happening to me sometimes. It feels really great. During the competition, my goal was not winning but delivering my favorite tracks and style to the crowds. So, I have less pressure compared to others."

How much does it mean to you to have made it to this stage of Miller SoundClash?

"Now I’ve been selected as representative DJ for my country which is a big responsibility but also a great honour."

How do you plan to stand out over the other DJs in Las Vegas? How will you be preparing for the finale?

"Speedy mixing and a broad spectrum of music!"

What makes you unique compared to the other international finalists?

"I love to share the energy with the crowds."

Las Vegas is the EDM capital of the USA, with major DJs playing every weekend. If you could meet and hang out with one of these DJs in Vegas, who would it be and why?

"Andy C. He is my favourite DJ. I have lots of questions that I would like to ask him!"

How important is it for competitions like Miller SoundClash to give aspiring DJs the chance to show their talent to the world?

"Playing in Las Vegas, as in the other question, it’s never easy to get it and many DJs want to have this chance some time. For me, it’s also a good opportunity to show my music to the world."

Tell us a bit about your home country - how is the electronic music scene where you are from?

Germany is famous for techno, UK has drum & bass, and Holland has trance or big room house. We don’t really have our own scene in South Korea yet. But it’s growing very fast, all the huge festivals such as Ultra Music Festival, Global Gathering are getting popular and we also have strong underground with many artists."
