Berlin-based producer and DJ Cassy will release a brand new EP, ‘E.T.Ascension’, later this week. Listen exclusively to ‘Alder’ below.

In a bid to honour her roots and reinvigorate her eccentricities, the three-tracker – arriving 15th September – finds the former Panorama Bar and DC-10 resident revisiting the understated production techniques she embraced during her earliest years in the German capital. Using only a trusty 808 and her computer, Cassy strips things back to basics to create a trio of spectral, analogue-honouring techno cuts with flashes of signature house warmth.

“The whole idea of this record was to work more like I used to when I was still living in Berlin,” said Cassy on the EP. “When I started working with this setup I felt that the sounds were fresh and it was nice to revisit these feelings using the machine and to reinvigorate myself with my weirdness in producing music and also my vocals. I felt connected with that part of myself as a producer again.”

Big-room opener ‘Where Are We Now’ dines out on those feelings of freedom, swerving through passages of tough, fractured techno and bassy deep house, interspersed with yelping vocal inflections.

On glittering middle track ‘Alder’, the clubland luminary reaches back into the archive to find something bright, shiny and new. Buoyant beats, fizzy synths, and chiming choral chops lead the way over a rare vocal performance from Cassy herself, who invites the dancefloor to “send it all my way.” Swedish techno DJ and fellow analogue advocate, The Persuader winds up the project with a tenebrous, peak-time refit of ‘Where Are We Now’.

The project arrives via Cassy’s own Kwench imprint; a sanctum for artists who share her open-minded view of electronic music. Her newest EP is preceded by a diverse back catalogue of releases from producers such as Ron Trent, Fred P, DJ Sneak, Art Alfie, Hector Moralez, and Sascha Dive.

‘E.T.Ascension’ will be released on Friday 15th September via Kwench Records. Pre-order the EP here and listen exclusively to ‘Alder’ below.
