Ukrainian DJ and producer PVLV will release a new EP, ‘Lights Off’, later this week. Have an exclusive first listen to ‘Killah Tape’ below.

Returning to his own United Rhythms label for the first time since unveiling his debut EP, ‘101A’, in late 2022, the Odesa-based artist channels his affinity for UK club styles and soundsystem culture into three eyes-down rhythmic heaters.

Nimble percussion burrows into punchdrunk bass and increasingly deranged vocal chops on opener ‘Killah Tape’, PVLV’s mutated take on UK bassweight, while A2 ‘Hoodlum’ mines the murky breakbeat techno vein first heard on his contribution to Holding Hands Records’ Ukraine appeal. ‘Flow State’ followed contributions to the series by fellow Ukrainian producer Monotronique, as well as Hunter Starkings, Dawn Razor & Ultranoise, Ocean Stirs and Liebus. You can find all of these releases on Holding Hands’ Bandcamp.

PVLV continues to serve up curveballs on the EP’s flip, winding down the tempo to 107BPM for closer ‘Cave Walk’. A writhing techno-dancehall hybrid powered by unsettling synths and beefy sub bass wobbles, it’s a testament to the producer’s unique ear for genre, as he continues to slip-and-slide through UK bass music’s gnarliest depths by way of Ukraine.

‘Lights Off’ is out this Friday 26th January via United Rhythms. Pre-order the EP here, and have an exclusive first listen to ‘Killah Tape’ below.
