Berlin’s Tresor, Ohm and Wilde Renate clubs cancel all events due to coronavirus

Berlin clubs Tresor, OHM and Wilde Renate have all decided to close their doors and cancel events until April 20th in response to the ongoing spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Renate has said that it will host live streams from the club, in place of parties, while it remains closed. The three clubs have followed in the wake of Berghain which announced on March 11th that it would close also until April 20th, triggering the cancellation of all "self-produced" events at the club between now and that date. 

Another club, Trauma Bar und Kino, which is home to much-loved party Room 4 Resistance, also announced earlier this week that all events that had been due to take place there this month would be postponed.

The clubs' decision to close comes after the city banned all events with more than 1,000 people, on the advice of Chancellor Angela Merkel, earlier this week. The Berlin Club Commission released a statement on March 11th (some hours before Berghain announced its closure) saying that it had set up a task force to help clubs deal with the economic fallout of the situation. 

A meeting with nearly 50 venue operators and organisers is said to have taken place to discuss possible courses of action. Suggestions included limiting the legal capacity of venues to 70 percent to avoid crowding and lobbying banks as well as the Berlin Senate to make funds available for struggling venues.

The Ableton LOOP conference, which had also been due to take place in Berlin next month, has now been postponed until April 2021, it was also announced this week.
