Death Row Records reissues Above The Rim soundtrack on cassette

It's released as part of the label's 30th anniversary celebrations

As part of its 30th birthday celebrations, Death Row Records has reissued the soundtrack for Above The Rim on cassette.

Directed by Jeff Pollack, the 1994 film stars 2Pac and Marlon Wayans, among others, and is the story of a promising high school basketball star and his relationships with a drug dealer and a former basketball star. The soundtrack features the likes of Warren G and Nate Dogg's classic 'Regulate', as well as tracks by artists including Jonny "J", DeVante Swing and Dr. Dre featuring Daz Dillinger. The soundtrack also features a rare fan favourite from 2Pac and Stretch, 'Pain', which you can hear below.

The reissue is the latest in Death Row's string of film soundtrack re-releases, which has also included Gang Related, Gridlock’d, which also starred 2Pac, and the 18-minute short, Murder Was The Case.

Beyond soundtracks, Death Row is also making Snoop Dogg's breakthrough album 'Doggystyle' available on cassette, as well as Dr. Dre's 1992 debut album 'The Chronic', 2Pac's 1996 LP 'All Eyez On Me' and 'The Don Killuminati (7 Day Theory)’, recorded under 2Pac's Makaveli alias one month before his death.

Founded by Dr. Dre, Suge Knight, The D.O.C. and the late Dick Griffey, Death Row catapulted West Coast hip-hop in the spotlight throughout the early '90s, releasing some of the most iconic rap albums of all time. Last month, it was announced that a new documentary about former Death Row Records CEO Suge Knight and the murders of The Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac would be released this summer.

The legendary label's decision to reissue certain titles via cassette reflects an increase in cassette sales in recent times
