Equiknoxx's Gavsborg announces debut vocal album as unkle G, shares single: Listen
The Jamaican artist enlists Tóke, Kat7, Rege Sosa, The Shiny People, Shanique Marie and more for his new album, out next month
Gavsborg is releasing his first vocal album under the new alias, unkle G. Watch the video for the lead self-titled single below.
The key Equiknoxx member has enlisted a number of collaborators for the 13-track LP including Tóke, Kat7, Rege Sosa, RTKal, The Shiny People, Darrio and Shanique Marie. The album, out on 4th November via Equinknoxx Music, plays with the perspective and experience of a recording studio producer working in the vocalist-forward Jamaican music industry.
“I&I have been writing vocals with and for Jamaican artists for over a decade now. It has never been just about emailing beats to people, hoping that they would record", Gavsborg said. "A big part of my experience as a Jamaican artist is everybody sitting in a room and sharing lyrics back and forth until the final song is created. Doing this over the years has brought me to unkle G, and the space to share some of these experiences & vibe.”
Earlier this year, the Jamaican producer launched a new tape label, Cassette Blair, with his debut album as Gavsborg titled '1 Hour Service'.
In 2022, Equinknoxx contributed to London label 404 eros' mixtape series dedicated to Notting Hill Carnival's "lost years".
