Find your friends in the club with new nightlife safety app Where You At

A new app designed to keep users safe at nightclubs has been launched for Android and iOS devices.

Where You At (WYA) is the project of Tamzin Lent, who set out to create the app after her own experiences of harassment and sexual assault in clubs. It allows users to find their friends while in clubs, and describes itself as "the first app to offer peer-to-peer safety, permitting friends to look out for one another".

WYA uses offline bluetooth technology and precise in-app mapping to allow its users to keep their friends updated on their movements inside a venue if they so wish. In case of an emergency, you can also use the app to ping your friends to alert them to help you.

Speaking about the app, developer Tamzin Lent said: "You know that feeling when you're out with friends, and suddenly you can’t find them? We've all been there. That's where WYA comes in. Our app solves this problem using indoor mapping, so you can precisely locate your friends, seeing whether they're by the bar or on the dancefloor. And the best part? It works without an internet connection or signal, making your nights out safer and more enjoyable."

The app officially launches later this month. Find more information via its website.

Last year, it was revealed that reports of sexual assault in London nightlife venues reached a six-year high in 2021.

In 2021, the Ask For Angela initiative, which aims to make nightlife safer for vulnerable people, was rolled out across London venues through staff training and a renewed campaign of awareness.
