Kyiv club Closer announces new Sunday party series to pay for fire damage repairs

Key Kyiv club Closer was partially damaged in a fire last week.

The venue's team shared the setback on Instagram, saying a fire broke out on Monday night, 20th March, in the "ship" structure with an open-air dancefloor and wooden deck that served as a chill-out area. The iron frameworks and stone walls remain. The indoor dancefloor was not damaged by the blaze.

To cover the cost of repairs, Closer has started a Sunday party series. The first edition featured residents Igor Glushko, Bambu and Jazzmate. (The Sunday, 2nd April lineup is still TBA.) With the slightly relaxed new midnight curfew throughout the city, parties can now run till 10:30 PM local time.

Closer aims to complete repairs in time for the 2023 edition of Strichka Festival, planned for mid-May. It would mark the return of the festival, which was forced to pause last year. The 2021 line-up featured Nastia, Objekt, Jana Woodstock, Karine, DJ Jus-Ed and more.

Last summer, Closer hosted two fundraising events in Berlin to support Ukrainian volunteer organisations.
