A new nightclub is opening in Kyiv this week. ENCES will launch on Saturday with a headline set by homegrown talent Nastya Muravyova alongside Sasha Storm, Ondan and 11112222.

Run by Denys Melnychenko, the venue is a continuation of former nightlife institution MetaCulture, which ran at the same address. As local publication, The Village, reports, the team have described the operation as a "free space for free people".

As a result of the ongoing conflict in the country, strict curfews are in place, restricting opening and closing time. At the time of writing, parties will only be allowed to run at weekends, with proceeds from events being used to support Ukraine's armed forces.

Located on Nyzhnoiurkivska Street, where a 1936 factory complex had transformed into a dance culture hotspot over the course of a decade until Russia's invasion, the area is considered the city's techno and electronic epicentre, with venues such as Mezzanine and Otel' helping establish its reputation. One of the most famous in the neighbourhood, Closer, suffered fire damage earlier this year, but following a fundraiser to cover repair costs was still able to host the Strichka Festival last month.
