New interactive exhibition documents Latin American electronic music history and evolution

A new interactive exhibition chronicling the history of Latin American electronic music has been launched.

LatAmTronica has been put together by the team behind Argentinian record label ZZK Records, and debuted last week at MUTEK Montréal. Taking in documentaries, audio, music videos and other archival material, it "seeks to unite, decode and reveal the stories around electronic music production in Latin America".

Nicola Cruz, Bitter Babe and Ela Minus are among the artists whose music features within the exhibition, which you can watch a trailer for below. You can also watch two of LatAmTronica's documentaries – 'Orgullo Latino' (Latin Pride) and 'Resister Creando' (Resist By Creating) – below.

A mission statement for LatAmTronica reads: "Powerful representations of marginal communities have built bridges to a common experience – born in the clubs of Buenos Aires, the barrios of Bogota, the beaches of Rio de Janiero and countless other cities. In an increasingly homogenised cultural landscape, where creative risk-taking is rarely encouraged, Latin American electronic music has become synonymous with originality and authenticity.

"From early experiments in the '50s to the internationally renowned producers of today, we recognise the importance of pioneers who broke new ground for this music in our region. Their stories form a rich tapestry of experience which is yet to be captured in full cinematic technicolour until now."
