Latin American women in electronic music celebrated in new book, Switched On

A new book shining a light on Latin American women in electronic music is coming this year.

Switched On: The Dawn of Electronic Sound by Latin American Women will be available for pre-order from 3rd March from Berlin-based independent publishing house Contingent Sounds, which launched in 2020 and "focus on sound discourses and listening practices".

Edited by Buh Records founder and independent curator Luis Alvarado along with Peruvian artist Alejandra Cárdenas, aka Ale Hop, who steers Contingent Sounds, the book will feature a variety of sound artists and composers, including Beatriz Ferreyra, Leni Alexander, Jacqueline Nova, Mónica O’Reilly Viamontes, Nelly Moretto, Oksana Linde, Patricia Belli, Jocy de Oliveira, and many more.

The 210-page hardcover book is described by Contingent as "the first book dedicated exclusively to the female protagonists of Latin American electronic music." Pre-order your copy from Contingent Sounds here.

Also out this year, Dream Machines: Electronic Music in Britain From Doctor Who to Acid House will trace the evolution of electronic music in the UK, from its avant-garde beginnings to today's techno offerings, making stops at psychedelia, art-rock, and synth-pop along the way.

Published on 11th April through Omnibus Press, Dream Machines will also include interviews with key figures.
