Pet Shop Boys have shared details of a new studio album, 'Nonetheless'.

Set for release on 26th April, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of first single 'West End Girls', the album was made with producer James Ford of Simian Mobile Disco, whose past work includes records with Blur, Depeche Mode and Arctic Monkeys.

Featuring 10 tracks, 'Nonetheless' was recorded and mixed in London over the course of last year at Ford's studio. Orchestral arrangements were additionally added across the record afterwards.

In a joint statement, Pet Shop Boys said: "We wanted this album to be a celebration of the unique and diverse emotions that make us human. From the more dance-orientated tracks to the raw poignancy of the introspective ballads, with their beautiful string arrangements, each track tells a story and contributes to the overall narrative of the album."

They continued: "We're very excited to release this new album. Its 10 tracks are the strongest indicators of where we are today. Like much of our music, it's very reflective. It was great to work with James Ford, who we think has brought new elements to our music.

"Our demos are sometimes quite complicated, and James has dared to make us a bit more minimal at times – but also, the string arrangements are very beautiful. Some of the record is quite heart-breaking, but we hope a lot of it is also uplifting. It's a record we're very proud of."

The release of 'Nonetheless' is preceded by the unveiling of lead track 'Loneliness', which opens the record. You can watch a video for the song below. It's also available to purchase digitally now ahead of a CD single release of the track on 16th February.

The duo will also return to London's Royal Opera House this year for a run of five shows from 23rd-27th July. It will mark their third run of shows at the venue, following on from gigs there in 2016 and 2018. More information can be found via Pet Shop Boys' website.

In June, the duo will head out on a series of 'Dreamworld' greatest hits shows around the UK.

Their 14th and previous studio album of new material was the 2020 LP 'Hotspot'.
