Talking Heads have reunited on stage for the first time in more than two decades at the Toronto International Film Festival

David Byrne, Tina Weymouth, Chris Frantz and Jerry Harrison appeared together for a Q&A led by Spike Lee at the Scotiabank Theatre last night, 11th September. The reunion was in honour of the premiere of A24's restored Imax 4K rerelease of the band's iconic 1984 concert film, Stop Making Sense, directed by the late Jonathan Demme.

"It’s so good to be here with my bandmates tonight", drummer Chris Frantz said, according to the Los Angeles Times. "It’s been a long time".

The band talked about how Demme approached them backstage to make the film, which Lee described as "the greatest concert film ever", how they planned the shoots and staging and how Byrne came to be costumed in his famous overlarge suit. "I was told that everything should be bigger onstage", Byrne said. "I thought, oh, my suit should be bigger too". They did not discuss their infamously difficult breakup and personal dynamics. Watch the Q&A in full via YouTube.

In contrast to rumours and speculation leading up to the TIFF event, the band did not perform at the screening and reports say they sat in separate rows during the film. Byrne stood up join his dancing row during 'Burning Down the House'.

David Byrne and Fatboy Slim's Here Lies Love musical began its New York Broadway run this summer.
