Theo Parrish announces !K7 DJ-Kicks mix celebrating Detroit's musical evolution

Theo Parrish will mix the next instalment of !K7's long-running 'DJ-Kicks' compilation series.

The 19-track mix, sub-titled 'Detroit Forward', is a celebration of the present and future of music in Parrish's home city of Detroit. It takes in tracks by the likes of Specter, Whodat and Deon Jamar, and will be released on 28th October.

18 of the cuts on the album are exclusive to the mix, while the other – a collaboration between Parrish and Duminie DePorres called 'Real Deal' – was released earlier this year.

In a statement about his mix, Parrish said: "Detroit creates. But rarely imitates. Why? We hear and see many from other places do that with what we originate. No need to follow. Get it straight.

"In the Great Lakes there's always more under the surface – more than what appears to penetrate the top layer of attention and recognition. What about those that defy tradition? Those that sidestep the inaccurate definitions often given from outside positions? This is that evidence. Enjoy."

Parrish's 'DJ-Kicks' mix follows on from recent contributions to the series by the likes of Cinthie, Jessy Lanza and Jayda G.

Last year, Theo Parrish released two remixes via the Neroli label, of Patrick Gibin & Kaidi Tatham's track 'Love To The World'.
