Oliver Heldens and Becky Hill share the story behind their chart-topping hit, 'Gecko (Overdrive)', on the week of its 10 year anniversary, as part of our DJ Mag Originals series.

In the video, Heldens explains how it was in the back of his mum’s car whilst on holiday where he made the original version of 'Gecko'. He then sent it to Tiësto on Twitter, which led to it being signed to Spinnin' Records and becoming a huge success as an instrumental.

The following summer a vocal version of the track was released, sung by Becky Hill and co-written with MNEK. Hill reflects on writing the song in the studio as a teenager and how 10 years on the track is just as special.

Electronic music history is rich with unforgettable and timeless classics like these. In our Making Of A Dance Classic series, DJ Mag explores the tales behind some of the world's favourite tracks, told by the people that made them. You can watch the episode above, and subscribe to DJ Mag's YouTube channel for more exclusive content here.
